One would think that after earning two Purple Hearts for his military service, now NYPD officer wouldn’t be phased by saving a life with CPR. But the officer said, “Nothing that I’ve ever done in my life, in my military career or on this job can compare to what happened to me today.”

The officer was waiting for speeders when he got the emergency call. He found the two-month old unconscious, blue and not breathing.

He calmed himself and began CPR chest compressions on the baby. After only a few seconds, her little fist clenched, her body twitched and she opened her eyes.

CPR Brought Them Together

50th Anniversary Of CPR Marked In San Francisco

They started off strangers on a train, and ended up brothers for life.

Neither man was on his normal routine, but fate, and the Long Island Rail Road, brought these two together in a life-changing event.

Marshall, 60, was standing near Gerow, 50, when Marshall’s heart stopped. And instantly, like it was yesterday, Gerow recalled learning CPR when he was a boy scout, nearly four decades ago.

Gerow immediately took action, performing CPR. The paramedics arrived at the next stop, and Gerow disappeared from the train with a round of applause.

Marshall survived, but had no idea who the man was that saved his life, so his wife posted it on Facebook, and the rest is history.

The men had an emotional meeting, and Marshall said, “He’s a brother for life.”

Officer Plastic Popo, is actually a CPR mannequin. He sits in a car, parked near areas where drivers routinely speed, and his presence keeps people in-line.

This CPR mannequin even has his own Facebook page, Plastic Popo, where the townsfolk give updates on his whereabouts.
